STE’s NICE Program seeks to standardize and codify institutional sensory friendly practices to better serve neurodiverse audiences throughout the entertainment industry. The program will educate, accredit, and support entertainment venues of all sizes.
The NICE Mission
What is NICE?
NICE is a codified rating system establishing reasonable accommodations that support neurodiverse communities and their participation in the theatrical experience. Based on the LEEDS accreditation model, NICE is a credit based training and certification program aimed at making theatre accessible for all. NICE revolutionizes sensory friendly entertainment by shifting the focus from individual show adjustments to sustainable seasonal support. It raises the consciousness of institutions and audiences through an adaptive sensory friendly program that maintains artistic integrity.

How does it work?
A neurodiverse community of both neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals (specifically those with ASD and/or PTSD), collaborated to develop NICE.
Each certified theatre will learn how to engage and partner with their local neurodivergent communities
Partnering with Neurodiverse Communities
Scalable
An ambitious rollout and expansion for NICE nationally and internationally began in 2020, following a three year research and development process engaging with prominent institutions throughout the theatre and entertainment industry.
To efficiently implement this model, NICE is establishing Hub Theatres in each region we launch, creating experts and stewards that provide local education, outreach, and support.
Sustainable
Creating seasonal accreditation allows neurodivergent individuals the opportunity to experience all shows in a season.
Implementing institutional accommodations develops a lasting and intentional neuro-diverse community within and beyond the theatre.
